Quick Notes for Prospective Members
The SAWC is a non-profit, non-affiliated corporation. Our members celebrate the joy of choral singing and promote its benefits through public performance and education.
Governance: The SAWC is governed by a community Board of Directors. Working groups of chorus members are responsible for day-to-day activities such as membership, concert events, monthly socials, costumes, ASCAP licensing/royalties, and music library. An Executive Committee headed by the Chorus Chair presides over the committee heads and serves as liaison to the Board of Directors.
Artistic Director : Terrie Ashbaugh, M.M.
Practice : Mondays 7-9 PM at Ascension Lutheran Church, Magee/La Canada .
Musical Genre : Eclectic mix of popular, classical, folk, Broadway, International, seasonal.
Auditions/Voice Sections : Auditions are conducted by our Artistic Director to determine ability to carry a tune, voice range and appropriate singing section - Alto I, Alto II, Soprano I, or Soprano II.
Deciding about Membership: Guests are invited to participate in two practice sessions. Continued participation requires a membership commitment.
Concerts : Two major ticketed events - Winter Holiday Concert in December, Spring Concert usually in May, approximately 30 small sing-out concerts throughout the year (some daytime, some evening, around 15 per season).
Tuition: $80 for the Fall season, $100 for the Spring season. Whole year paid in advance is $150. Payment flexibility and Scholarship support handled by the Chorus Chair.
Other fees : Refundable scarf deposit of $20 due in October (February for those joining in January), music deposit of $25 due by the end of September (February for those joining in Jan/Feb). Formal costume for Winter/Spring concerts purchased for approximately $100.
E-mail listserv : Members with an E-mail address can receive chorus messages via a listserv. Those without E-mail access are assigned a communication ‘buddy' who will forward messages of importance.
